The last weekend of summer is upon us!  Hurry up and wear every single white item of clothing you own all at the same damn time! Ha, just kidding.  I mean if that’s your thing fine but I don’t believe in that fashion “rule”.  That said, I’ll definitely be sporting my preppiest summer whites this weekend as I head to Montauk to celebrate the unofficial last days of summer surrounded by sand, ocean and sunshine.

I’ve never been to Montauk but the rumor is that as the farthest tip in Long Island (about three hours from the city), Montauk has a reputation for being more laid-back than various other well-known areas in the posh Hamptons.  I, by nature, am not a Hamptons girl in the sense that I have no urge to venture out to what I lovingly refer to as “the Meatpacking District with a beach” every weekend during the summer like a select group of New Yorkers.  I’ve spent some time in South and East Hampton in my younger years and it just was never really my scene…simply because it’s always a bit of a scene.  When the opportunity arose for me to spend a few days in a share in Montauk, I had some hesitations. In my opinion, the makings of a great beach vacation include pristine beaches, fresh seafood dinners, good friends and preferably bare feet…not tight dresses, stilettos and glasses of champagne.  After some slight protesting and more research, I’ve found that Montauk includes “over 5,000 acres of pristine public beaches and breathtaking diverse parkland…[guests can] enjoy swimming, surfing, fishing, boating, golfing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, biking, bird watching, observing nature, and more”*
