Travel Tuesday Obsession: Road Trip tunes

Happy Travel Tuesday! For those of you that don’t know, Travel Tuesday is a themed day that actually exists in the social media sphere, not just something I created to go along with my Monday Memories theme 🙂 Today’s Travel Tuesday obsession is not necessarily new, but it’s new to me!  For the past couple weeks I have not been able to stop listening to John Mayer’s “Born and Raised” album (released May 22, 2012, the day before my birthday!) and I think it’s because this album is my ideal “hit-the-open-road-and-discover-your-soul” soundtrack.

In my opinion, this album is different from his past albums for two reasons: sonically, all of the tracks have more of a bluegrass/folk feel and rely heavily on John’s talent as a guitar player vs. his pop-like tracks of the past. Topically, the songs delve deeper into a man who has come into accepting and actually liking himself regardless of his past mistakes and failures.  John makes it clear that this album involved a lot of soul-searching and a new man was born as the finished product. Anyway, enough about John’s spiritual awakening and back to the album.

The best thing about this album is that the video for the first single “Shadow Days” is an ode to Americana as viewers follow John’s travels through Montana, Idaho, and Arizona. As Montana and Idaho are still on my states to visit list, this video was very inspiring to me! Check out the video below as well as the album for your next road trip!*

*”Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967″ is my favorite song on the album and in my opinion one of the best John has ever written! What’s your favorite?
